Keyboard only works by holding down option key.

Hey guys,

my keyboard on my Macbook air is just crazy. It only works fine by holding down the option key. Only ", enter and erase is working fine without option key. And not enough...by pressing the keyboard, whether or not it is working, the trackpad only makes a doubleclick altough I just pressed with one finger.

Thanks for helping and sry for the grammatics.

Update (04/05/2016)

Update. Removed the Backlight with no problem and damage. The keyboard has little dark spots where the connection cables between the keys are.

Have you tried using an external keyboard (USB or Bluetooth) ?

It doesn't take much to mess things up ;-{

I think you'll need to get to your trackpad to clean the keyboard connection there. Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Trackpad Replacement. Review Steps 6 & 7 I suspect you have corrosion on the connectors

Hey Dan, unfortunately yes. But not a glass full of water, only a little bit. It works fine, but only by pressing option key.

I'll try an external keyboard on Monday. I hope it will work on Recovery Mode, because I resett the Mac hoping it will reset the keyboard automatically..

If the error is on the keyboard, then I'll just order a new one from amazon for about 30€. That isn't the biggest problem. But, if the keyboard is not the problem, what else could it be??

Thanks for helping me.

I would start off checking the connections before replacing the keyboard. Nothing else here that can explain your issue.

by

Allright. Do you think a keyboard change will solve the Problem, if the connections are not the issue?

by

It doesn't take much water to cause big problems. Yes, if you don't see any corrosion I would replace the keyboard and you might need a trackpad too.
