How to remove dust from behind the lens

I have lots of dust particles showing up in my most recent pictures. I had a similar problem with an SX210 but that was dust on the sensor. This appears more like lens dust to me because the pictures show a much sharper image of the particles and there are lots of them. Is this something I should attempt on my own?
