Why wont the cd spin?

I have a PlayStation 4 model CUH-1215A. This was a console that was in a flood. I dried it out and was able to get it working. Evey thing works besides the fact that it wont recognize cd's( from game to movies, all) . Pulled it apart to a point where I could see what was working. The laser seems to work. It flashes from blue to red. Cds will feed in and out fine. I noticed that the cd wasn't spinning. The worm gear also works. After this, I replaced the cd motor and worm gear because it was one piece, hoping that it would fix the problem. Nope, still have the same problem after the new part was installed. I don't want to buy the wrong part again. Hope this information helps. Thank you for your time.

There's no use sending your console to Sony. They won't touch anything with liquid damage. Unfortunately with liquid damage it can be very difficult to find the root of some of these types of problems. If it was in my shop I would start by replacing the laser & carrier...if that didn't fix it then I would replace the drive. If none of that fixed it then I would remove the motherboard and inspect the disc drive components on the motherboard. Normally I don't do so much parts swapping but in the case of water damage sometimes that's the best option.

I hope this helps some...I'm sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.

Okay. Ill just give that a try. Ive already replaced the carrier(I think that's the part with the CD motor and worm gear motor). Do you by chance know if the little switches in the drive could keep the motor from turning on? I think they get pressed when the CD is fully inserted. Thanks again.

The little switches can make the motor not spin. Those are what tell the drive that there is a disc in it.

- Rebuild the database. Fully turn-off the PS4 and unplug the cord. Put the cord back in and hold down the power button until you hear a second beep. This will put it into SAFE mode. Select option 5 to rebuild the database. This method scans the PlayStation 4 drive and creates a new database of all content. It works in the same way that you defrag your PC. Do not turn the PS4 off while you’re rebuilding the database. This could take some time.

- If nothing has worked, you should send your PS4 in for a service. You should check out the PlayStation Support page to find the relevant number in your country.
