Superdrive wont accept discs

I recently removed my optical drive in favor of another hard disc drive. When we 'upgraded' my machine, I went ahead and installed El Capitan 10.11.3 ..

I can no longer use my SuperDrive with this machine. It picks my drive up perfectly when I look at the system profiler, but I can't get the drive to accept a disc, and El Capitan gives me a warning at the top right when I plug it in that says it wont work with this machine.

The SuperDrive works just fine on my Mac Mini with a previous version of 10.X installed, so I don't believe it is the drive. There is an old script work-around that can be utilized for previous versions, but I cannot get it to work for this. It is a known issue that machines with optical drives installed don't seem to like the SuperDrive.

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Have a great afternoon-

Put your MacBook Pro into Target Mode via a Firewire 800 cable with the Mini. Use the Minis' optical drive to do the installation. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201462
