Buzzing transformer not charging - any ideas?

The transformer, 'big white block,' for my Macbook is buzzing and will not charge (I believe it is a magsafe 2). It sounds like it is shorting somewhere. Any ideas of what to expect when opening it up and tools I'll potentially need to fix the problem? Or anyone who has had similar issues?

Cheers.

Repairing a so-called power brick is usually not recommended, for reasons of electrical safety.

To emphasize this, power bricks are usually glued or welded shut and cannot easily be disassembled. It would be possible to cut open the housing and effect simple repairs (such as replacing a dead capacitor, common cause of power brick trouble) but the repaired power brick will no longer satisfy safety regulations.

The reason for this state of affairs is that it is not at all unlikely for non-experts to compromise the "safety barrier" between the mains voltage and the output side of a typical power brick, and such may have lethal consequences.

Bottom line: power bricks should be replaced, not repaired.

Due to the nature of the device, it is not recommended that you attempt to repair power transformers.

A replacement MagSafe power brick can be purchased from Amazon $18 - $80 depending upon power level and if OEM or Genuine Apple part.

As the casing is fused closed, opening requires use of a saw blade therefore can't be put back together cleanly.
