Where engine num comes

Hi i have w123 300d i want to know where engine num comes n in my car there r four gears so is it 300

I am not sure if I understand your question, but my best guess is that you are asking why it is called a "300".

That number relates to the displacement of the engine.

The "300" is a 3000cc engine.

The "240" is a 2400cc engine.

The D at the end is for Diesel.
