phone powers on and instantly screen goes black

Ok, so I did a screen replacement. Phone started to heat up real bad, put another screen on phone and that fixed the heating problem. Got phone put back together and realized that the ear speaker was not working, there was a small tear in the cable, so I replaced that as well, put phone back together and now i try to power it on and at first the white apple screen comes on and sits on this for a long while then shuts off, did this a couple times, now i press the power button and it pops on and then right back off again. I opened the phone back up and can see the back light on but screen is still blank. if i plug in charger white screen with apple pops up and right off again. at this point I am stuck not sure where to go with it. Any Ideas?????

Hi Ryan,

Your problem may again be a cable issue. First I would disconnect battery. then remove the screen assembly and reconnect without the front camera assembly cable. reconnect the battery and power the phone on. Short of that you might look to see if any damage was done to the board during the repair. Look for scratches or SMDs that may have been knocked loose.

Good luck

So I have tried that, and I have looked at the motherboard with a magnifying glass and no scratches, not sure what SMD's are, perhaps you mean resisters? but continues to do the same thing I listed above. I have even tried to connect to itunes to restore the phone, but it gets to about 110 mb downloaded and an error comes up.

During a phone call, if the screen goes black (I presume due to the proximity sensor), the phone will sometimes not wake up - even with the home button - and not allow me to access the touch screen. It's frustrating if I receive another call (call waiting) or if I have an option to press.

Hello Sam,

Sounds like a software issue. Backup your phone and then do a DFU restore. Once done you can test the phone by recording a quick test message in the "Voice Memos" app and playing it back through the ear speaker while covering the ear speaker area with your thumb. The screen should turn black and come back when your thumb is removed.
