iPhone is searching for network

My iphone 5 today suddenly started started searching network,

I took out the SIM card , it still kept searching for network instead of saying no sim or no service.

I reset network settings, then all settings, turned phone on off several times, put back sim in, hard reset it etc.

I haven't restored it from itunes that I will do next but I am wondering if any one had simlar problem.

Taking SIM card out should changed it to no sim or no service but it doesn't do that so that is weird.

Another thing is it doesn't give me an option to select carrier manually as that option has disappeared from the settings.

Please help

Answer this question I have this problem too

Do you still have an IMEI number displayed in the Settings > General > About Phone? (Don't post the IMEI number here as it uniquely identifies your phone)

This can happen if the time/date is set wrong. Try manually setting the time, pop the SIM card in. If that connects to network change the time setting back to Auto.

There are too ways to solve it.

Method 1(you already tried):

Try Reseting Network Settings by going into

Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Your phone will restart deleting wifi passwords and so on.

Method 2:

If it's a hardware problem then the only solution is to heat the baseband ic (under sim tray) with a hairdryer for approximetely 5 mins

According to iPhone could not be restored unknown error 1

Do not try to Restore phone via itunes cause your phone will be unusable (happened to me)

Post back with the results

You can find your IMEI on the settings? If you can't then it's hardware problem
