What parts need replacing?

i dropped my phone face down on ceramic tiles, not only has the glass screen smashed but parts of the keypad have turned into what id describe as a big colour smudge,what parts do i have to replace??!

It sounds like you broke both the glass front panel and the LCD. I recommend the iPhone 3GS Display Assembly and follow this guide to do the repair.

Sounds like you have damaged both LCD and digitizer... Cheaper option would be just to buy LCD display and digitizer of eBay... Although changing the digitizer might be tricky if you are doing it for the first time therefore you might be better off buying the whole thing as person above suggested :)
