The battery door broke on my Nikon D90 and I can no longer close it. I basically have to cover it with tape and hope that it stays shut. Doesn't really work that great and I'm hoping that I don't have to get a new body.

You can get a spare battery door for a few bucks. Search ebay, amazon or just do a generic google search.
To fit the new battery door, no special tools or skills are required. It just snaps in.

It's more like a chunk is broken off the side that the door would latch onto.
@bbickle you'll have to replace the bottom cover then.
Do a search on ebay for "Nikon D90 Bottom Cover" or "... Bottom shell". The part is available from several vendors, for about $15 ... $20.
Replacing it is straightforward, see here:
