Hi,

I think that this wiring diagram is correct. Apologies if it is not.

It shows that to operate the driver's side brake lights the power comes into the light on the yellow wire from the left turn signal indicator switch contact when it is not operated. It comes into the right side light on the dark green wire from the right turn signal indicator switch contact when it is not operated. These switches are located in the turn/hazard/headlight switch assembly. Presumably this is connected to the stalk control on the steering column which controls the turn/headlight/hazard light functions.

Brake light power comes into the unit on the light blue wire, through the switch at normal, to the centre point between the left and right turn switches, splits to go through the switches at normal to go to the lights on the yellow (left turn/brake) and dark green (right turn/brake) wires. See image.

I think that the left turn switch contact at normal, (operated is OK as you say the turn indicator light works) or the connection between the left and right contacts (as the right brake light works OK) is faulty.

Apologies if you know how to read a wiring diagram

Your hazard light is jammed, press it in a few times, loosen it up

Just had to comment ! No brake lights on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Center light in back window works. Had bulbs changed and brake lights still did not work. Was getting ready to put in the shop, then found this post. Tried to push hazard button on steering wheel down and it was stuck. Tried my little girly hammer. ( I am a 68 year old grandma). No luck. Got a bigger hammer! Tapped a few times. Tried to push down, IT WORKED ! Had my sister come out and watch while I pressed on brake, VOILA !!! Brake light lit up like the 4th of July !

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you !

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. 3rd brake light worked, and the other two did not after all bulbs were changed out. I was getting ready to try replacing the brake switch when I found this. This was the problem and unjamming my hazard light switch was the fix! Thank you so much!

I had this problem when I switched tail lights to LED,, check wire connections running to bulb plugs, also my plugs were submerge in water. Stock tail light was 3/4 full.. but you may have a short, clean plugs and apply bulb greese. That was my issue.
