iPhone 3G...3g mode works 2g/edge mode does not

Phone works in 3g, but does not pick up any 2g reception. Anytime I am out of 3g range it gets no reception. If I switch to 2g mode (to save battery) it goes to one bar then searching... Switched antenna (full dock) still no 2g reception. Any help?

The same Sim works on other fones with 2G network.It has to be something wrong with the phone.

Vibhor/Anyone else that may be looking at this.

If you have ATT, I believe they have recently started shutting down the 2G network (at least in the US). I got a message from ATT late last year saying that 2G service would soon no longer be available and that I had to move to the 3G network. It's possible that this has finally reached you.
