New battery causes trackpad jam?

I just replaced my old dying battery using the instructions on this site. It went very smoothly and was easy to do, but it left one side of my trackpad completely jammed. However, when I remove the battery and run the computer solely on external power the trackpad works just fine.

I looked into it and found that a lot of people had this problem when their battery was old and "swollen." But this one was brand new and has no damage whatsoever.

If there is no problem with the battery removed and problems when it is in.......... it's the battery. Do you have enough experience to know a bad battery when you feel one?

Unfortunately, I do not have enough experience to tell a bad battery just by touch. I'm thinking about asking ifixit.com if I can exchange it for another one, but I'm concerned that the next battery would cause the same issue.

Feel it. See if it feels or looks fatter in the middle than on the edges. Compare it to the old battery.

Woah. You're right. When compared to the old battery, it is much thicker and bubbles out in the center. I'm going to send a message to ifixit and see if they will exchange it for a new one.

Glad I could be of service. I had put in a brand new one in my son's computer (which of course I paid for) and it was swollen up in a week. It happens and there's no way to tell that I know of it it's going to happen.

Thank you so much!
