Why can I not view my son's pictures on my computer?

I'm trying to have some of my son's pictures developed, but when I plug my VTech Kidizoom Action Cam to my computer, it does not appear under My Computer. What do I do so I can access them?

First make sure that the USB is properly connected to one of the USB ports on the computer. If the problem persists, make sure that the USB Cable is not faulty by trying the cable on a different computer. If the problem continues please view the Troubleshooting Page for further information.

I tried several cables that did not work, including what I thought was the cable that came with the Kidizoom (it may not have been) before I read a post that said to use the cable from my Amazon Firestick. After plugging that in, the computer registered that it was connected to the camera, and on the camera it asked if I wanted to go into Camera Connection Mode, I accepted and then everything worked fine, i.e., it showed up in File Manager. By the way, I had the camera turned on and the io switch was on i.
