Backlight not working after replacing battery, from water damage

My son dropped his itouch in the pool. We dried it and it worked except it was not holding a charge. I just replaced the battery and now the backlight does not work. Did I do something wrong. If there was a short in my sodering could this be a symptom?

The second link was one I had not seen yet. It was helpful. But the back light did work but it just couldn't hold a charge. From reading the other posts it sounds like when the backlight goes out it is a component on the mother board. So if it was the solder job from putting in the battery that blew that component, it is blown right? I can't go resolder the battery and fix this right?
