iPhone 6s Power Volume Flex Replacement

I just replaced the volume/power flex cable on an iPhone 6s, but the vibrator switch is not working properly. It seems to be a physical issue with the new switch being loose. The volume buttons and vibrator switch are held in place by a metal bracket, and the original vibrator switch was adhered onto that bracket. I couldn't tell if the vibrator switch was soldered onto the bracket or not.

After the replacement, the vibrator switch won't 'click' back and forth. If I have the phone open and hold the switch in place with a plastic spudger, it works fine. It seems like the issue is simply that the vibrator switch WAS anchored to the metal bracket, but the new power/volume flex with the new vibrator switch is not anchored to this bracket and therefore not secured into place.

My question this - Did I do something wrong on re-assembly and there's another way this vibrator switch is supposed to be anchored to work properly? Or do I need to solder the vibrator switch to the metal plate to hold it in place?

I found an iPhone 6s volume/power flex cable on eBay that comes WITH the metal bracket (the original one I bought came WITHOUT the metal bracket), so I'm wondering if I should have just bought the one with the bracket. But that cable is only available from China (time is a factor), and over a half dozen major US suppliers that i've checked with only carry the flex cable WITHOUT the metal bracket.

So is there an easy way to do the repair properly using the flex cable WITHOUT the metal bracket? Or do I need to learn micro-soldering or order the eBay flex cable from China?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Did you solve this? I have a similar problem. But in my case it looks like even the other metal brackets are soldered on. I can't remove these for the switches. Thoughts?

Hi Matt

If you still have the old flex you can take off the old metal bracket and put it in the new flex that will solve the issue.

If you bin the old flex then you should buy the ones with bracket, otherwise it won't work.

Hope this help

How do you remove the brackets from the old cable? I can't find this info anywhere. they seem to be spot welded on.

You can buy them with the brackets installed.
