Fuse won't go back in - 1997 Toyota Camry

I know this sounds pretty basic...

On my 1997 Toyota Camry I am trying to change the turn signal fuse - located under the driver's side dashboard. I was able to pull the old fuse out but cannot get a new one to go back in. I can get it in the socket but can't push it all the way in. I am not sure how hard to try to force it in.

Could this mean that there is something wrong with the fuse socket? (The entire old fuse came out...doesn't look like anything is stuck in the socket.)

Here is the best picture I could get. It is in a tight location. I appreciate any advice you can give.

It might help to post a close up of the receptacle so we can see if the phones have gotten bent in or other damage has occurred. Sometimes these sockets are very tight.
