Controller crashes system consistantly.

Whenever I plug in my 1st party GameCube controller to the console, the GameCube crashes. It doesn't do it immediately, but at varying times. There is minor cable damage, as a dog bit it once or twice. It looks as only one of the internal wires is frayed a little. It only does this with that one controller.
