Why is screen dark?

Hi, I have an Iphone 6 that was dropped and the screen went black. It was taken to a repair shop, but they said it could not be fixed. I took it to another place, they opened it up and said that there is a missing plate over the A8 chip. And now there is a faint picture on the screen that you can only see at an angle. I tried adjusting the brightness but that is already as high as it can go. I have reset the phone and still nothing is fixing this. What is the problem and is it fixable?

Backlight is usually a straightforward repair for trained micro soldering experts. You can try to find one near you by browsing the website link I have posted on my profile here on iFixit. Most if not all of there guys welcome mail-in repairs.

You can also head to your local repair shop if they have the skill and tools and ask them to repair it for you, or they can subcontracted to someone who can.

HOWEVER, the fact that the plate is missing over the A8 chip means someone tempered with this phone already. Why? When? Was it purchased used or new? History is important.

The second shop told me the plate was missing. The first place said nothing about it so I think maybe they messed it up.

OK when you see a very dim image and a new screen doesn't fix it, it means the back-light circuit is damaged. I would guess that one of the following happened:

1/ The drop damaged the back-light circuit and the first shop removed the plate to examine that back-light circuit because the bulk of it is located in that area under the shield, near the A8. So nothing suspicious about that "à priori."

2/ The "conspiracy theory:" may be the screen went black because it broke from the drop. The first shop replaced it and made a mistake that damaged the backlight circuit. They tried and failed at fixing it.

Either way, it can be fixed in 90% of cases, but by someone with enough experience as not to damage the A8 processor in the process since the back-light circuit is very near and badly calculated moves can lead to damage to the A8 => dead or irreparable phone.

Probably backlight IC faulty on the motherboard. Youll have to ask a mobile phone technician for it to be replaced or repaired.
