reset the tuner but it didn't solve my lack of sound output

Similar problem with an AVR 1513. It's been this way since I opened the box (but I waited too long so Denon won't stand by their warranty). Denon tech support told me that I could reset the processor by putting the unit in "Standby" mode (turn the power off using the front button but leaving the unit plugged in) then holding the left and right tuner button while hitting the power button to start up. You need to keep holding the left and right tuner buttons for about 5 flashes of the display then you can release the tuner buttons. It reset the tuner but it didn't solve my lack of sound output. Test tone features still don't work. All configuration were properly set. Speakers still show 7.2 ohms through the wires, polarity is correct. Speakers work well when the receiver decides to work. I will scope the output to the speakers but I expect I'll see nothing. Does anyone have drawings that might help or run into this problem before?

Hi JETBD,

Wondering in your case if there are speaker protection relays which have operated (should be released for sound to pass through- if the circuit drawing convention I know of lever spring contacts moving toward the relay coil when operating holds true). If you have the case open you might be lucky and see if the relay contacts are in the operated position (hopefully the relays are in a clear plastic case). Then you have to work out why they are operated.

Thanks to OT03 there is a manual available which should be of great help. It shows that there are protection relays for all the speaker outputs. Plus there is an audio troubleshooting flowchart on p.54 which may help in localizing the problem
