broken ram holddown tabs

Hello ,

I've replaced several memory modules in several different computers and never had any problems ....until now ! I upgraded my sisters Macbook pro ram ,

2 x 4GB stacked and had a real hard time getting the plastic clips to hold down the modules ,then both broke off but the ram did finally register the 8 gbs and is working. Is there anyone who knows if the holddown plastic tabs are a replaceable part? There are small phillips screws in the part left on . Is it something that can be removed and replaced?

Thanks for anyones consideration of my issue !

Michael

I have used plastic toothpicks and super glue to build brackets to hold these in place before. It's not easy looks like h*ll but it can work.

Ouch! Sadly no, you can't replace the clips as the clips are part of the socket unit which is what the screws is holding down to the logic board (the socket contacts are also soldered).

Due to the number of pins that need to be desoldered it's not worth trying to replace the part.

You might be able to wedge the modules down with some plastic stock. Otherwise its time for a new logic board.
