2011 Mac- Now powering, bliking orange light missing bottom right part

i have my moms lap top that i am trying to diagnose, she took it in several years ago.. i have it now, but theres a issue you will notice that a part is missing. maybe the people were shady, she took good care of it so doubt the logic board was fried. what's missing here?

ok, i was just informed that she 'fried' the hard drive some years ago. @marcobertolotti I can do a search but is there any test I can do to make sure it's in fact the hard drive and not anyhting else? I tried the shift/contrl command trick to power but its just a blinking light on the adapter. thoughts? thanks, so much for your time

First we need to know the exact machine you have. There is a recall on some of the 2011 machines but you have not given us enough data or symptoms to make an accurate diagnosis.

I'm limited to what i know.. so far, just the hard drive missing @mayer i an run whatever test, just wanted to know if i order the hrad drive, that would do the trick, rathern than a whold logic board.

Well that's the SATA hard drive cable. Where's the hard drive?

I've changed the icon the the correct one. If the machine boots to a folder with a question mark, putting in a GUID formatted hard drive with system 10.6.3 - 10.11.3 should work just fine. If it doesn't boot to the flashing folder, you may have other issues. Here's how to install a hard drive: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Hard Drive Replacement

You will need the hard drive screws also and maybe the bracket that hold it in place. Do you have another Mac to hook it up to so you can access Disk Utilities? And possibly clone a system onto it?

Yes i do have a macbook pro 2011. Maybe the hard drive works fine.. and it's a motherboard issue.

Swap the hard drive and give it shot.
