I might have disconnected the hard drive without dismounting it.

My WD My Book 3TB is no longer recognisable by my iMac, after it might have been disconnected without being dismounted properly. I've tried a different USB as well as power cable with no success. The light is on but there's no sound coming from the hard drive.

How can I access it and recover my data?

You might want to try pulling the drive out of the box an using a Universal Adapter: Universal Drive Adapter
