Change old SSD vs new SSD

in 2011 I orderd an iMac 27" with already build in HDD - 1 TB and SSD - 256GB.

A year ago the SSD stopped working and i had to reinstall the OS on the HD.

Finally i want to exchange the old SSD against a new one.

Does anybody know where the old SSD is placed in the iMac and which tutorial i should use?

I hope, because there is a SSD build in, it will be much easier and faster to replace it!

Greetings from Germany and thanks for every answer!

Update (02/23/2016)

I did it today and the old SSD was placed below the Optical Drive. Whith the instructions it was pretty easy. Thanks everyone for your help!

The Apple installed SSD is underneath the logic board. Yes you can replace it with something better. I would follow the IFIXIT guide here: Installing iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 Dual Hard Drive Kit.

The trick here is not to remove the old drive! Leave it where it is. Just disconnect the cables on the logic board and plug in the new cable set and SSD per the guide.

If you really want to remove the old SSD and the cables you'll need to remove the entire logic board as it's screwed down via a bracket. Its a lot more work which you really don't need to do.

If you are planning on creating a Fusion Drive I would recommend you first boot up under an external drive and make sure your current HD is in good health. Often the HD's go first. Run Disk Utility to check it out and repair it if needed. I would also make sure you have the newest OS-X release and double check the systems firmware is up to date.

But where would I place the new SSD in the iMac? Is there any space left ?

if you replace it then you place it on the old spot..

The new drive goes under the optical drive per the dual drive install guide you'll find the URL link in my answer for all of the needed steps.
