How to restore when it just cycles/beeps with apple logo/spin wheel

Hi

The battery was almost dead. So I plugged it in. The battery charging indicator came on, then the apple logo appeared, but when it chirped and tried to turn on, it froze. Then chirped and tried to turn on again. It never seems to charge. And when connected to iTunes it seems to be recognized but won't sync. Is there some way to circumvent the boot up?

Other ideas? Thanks!

hold down the power and home buttons whilst it is plugged into iTunes.

release the power button but keep the home button pressed.

iTunes will detect the iPod in "recovery mode".

You can re-install the firmware from there :)

Good Luck,

James.

Been searching for the longest time. This worked for my iPad.

When screen goes black, keep holding the home button. iTunes will recognized a device in recovery mode at that point.

Thank you for your post James, you are a genius. You should work for the apple genius bar….
