iPhone 3GS is working but not will charge and connect to usb?

pc case front usb cables from the mainboard on the firewire (1394) was inserted into the output. iphone usb port on front when installed, restart. iphone is running, but little battery left. I installed the usb port for charging. (Pc rear of the chassis). itune iphone did not recognize. did not start charging. I bought iPhone to factory settings. the battery is over. Now, when I connect the charger, iphone opens. Apple is coming. After a while it freezes. after some time starts again. does not charge. usb does not work.

please help.

have you tried mains charger instead of charging via computer? sometimes the power from computer isnt enough to charge dying battery.

try changing usb leads-is it frayed?

check dock bay for dirt/damage.

if no luck then is either battery or dock. if phone has been dropped battery connection may be loose or dock connector no 4 is loose. could also have damaged dock connector so that no charge is getting to battery.

if you have a spare phone you could try swapping dock connector, then you'll know whether its a battery or dock problem.
