Strange app appeared on screen when I restarted my phone after a commercial flight. The App is "on-top" and when touched seems to lock the screen, will not even allow a conventional shut down. It does not show in the Apps list in System. It looks like the symbol for a Remote?

I am going to guess by your description that the remote symbol is for an app called Peel Smart Remote. I have this app on my m8 to use with my TV and satellite. I have a custom ROM installed but I think my old stock ROM had Peel Smart Remote pre-installed and I encountered this issue. I updated the app and it got rid of the icon on the screen if I remember correctly. I thought there was an option in the apps setting menu to disable the floating remote icon but I could not locate one in my app. So check to see if you have Peel Smart Remote app in your apps. Hope this helps.

Thanks Burnie, you nailed it. It may have been like that because I hadn't set up the app however I don't think I downloaded it anyway.
