Lcd or mainboard, which part I should replace it.

Hello, first timer here.

It's gonna be a long story because i do not know what to do.

So..

It was an ordinary day. I've got a message, grabbed the phone, unlock the screen and i was stunned. The screen was blurry, like it wasn't focused at all. And there was a white horizontal line at close to the top of the screen. So first thing i did, i restart the phone. When i turned on the phone, sometimes the screen did show up, and sometimes did not.

So I've sent an email to a guy, who repair Apple products, and he's good at it.

He suggested that i should dry out the phone on radiator the whole night. And then message him back with the results. So i did what he said.

After i came back from work, first thing i tried, i plugged the charger to phone. The phone started to play the sound of connecting the charger. (Ding!). But... It started to repeat the sound constantly with small gaps. Like every 15 sec was the sound played.

I've sent another message to the guy, with the results. He emailed me back that my phone was probably flooded. (it wasn't). Back then, the day was very humid.. Maybe that was the case.

So he said that he can repair the phone, but it's gonna be expensive, because it's probably the mainboard.

A friend at work suggested that it's probably the lcd.

So getting to the end of this long story, are the symptoms telling me that it's lcd or the mainboard? What do you think?

If it's the lcd, I can handle replacing the screen on my own, and the screen with tools are pretty cheap on the market over here.

But if it's the mainboard, then I'm jumping to iPhone 5s.

Thank you for reading this long boring story. Cheers.

@jimfixer No, it wasn't wet. It was dropped few times, but it happened months ago. I did changed the battery two months ago and until that day, it was fine.

I think it's a good idea. Will try that.

@iMedic thanks for the respond. Will try to clean connectors.

Cya soon

First did the phone get wet ? Did it get dropped or banged ? If your willing to open it and have a look do so and tear it down follow the guide and inspect the logic board. If anything looks crusty or corroded or burnt in any way you have a board problem otherwise I would guess its an LCD issue replace the screen and you should be good . Do you have any battery issues , will it charge and can you connect to itunes without issue. Usually when you have water damage you have battery and charging issues. Hope this helps

Kinda hard to say. If you're as confident as you feel. Take the back off the phone. Remove the plates and connectors, clean the connectors on the board with 90 proof isopropyl alcohol and see what problems that relieves.

iMedic alcohol proof in the United States is defined as twice the percentage of alcohol by volume. Consequently, 90-proof isopropyl alcohol would only contain 45% alcohol (if 90 proof would be available). I suppose you are referring to 90 percent isopropyl alcohol.

Yes, correct. Percent. Thank you for correcting me. I think I say proof all the time
