How to repair/replace low voltage lead

We've all seen it happen.

The silicone rubber insulation on the cable connecting the brick to the laptop has been nicked and now the damage is 'running' exposing the shielding wires.

Apple's response is replace it - Yeah at $100+ per time and I'm sick of it. I wanna Fixit.

I have tried wrapping it with insulating tape but have not had a lot of success because the silicone shrinks and displaces the tape.

I found a good link to doing the job but the embedded link for the part was broken and I have not been able to find a new source.

Has any body got a new source of parts?

Actually it's more like A$130 and no kiss!

It's any of them. My wife's laptop uses the L type and I just had one fail on the 45W MagSafe 2 on my 2013 Mac Air. That's a work machine so my employer paid for the replacement - bonus!

I've successfully used Dave Fixedit's version.

Thanks for the eBay link

Here's an adapter I use all the time for switching between older and newer machines: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/MD5...

The parts for the MagSafe2 arrived today. I've got a few spare bricks lying around with no usable cables. I intend to try putting a type 2 cable onto an old 60W brick.

I cannot see why this should not work. Any comments?
