Hi,

What do you mean when the modem is off? Is the power turned off, are you just offline but the modem is still powered on? What kind of sounds does the modem make - is it tones or squeals? The more you tell us the quicker that there may be a fix

What is the model number of your modem? What is the model number of your desktop PC? What OS is installed on your PC?
