Why does my monitor screen flickers twice and the backlight turns off?

Hi, I have an Asus VE205N LCD monitor that has the following behavior.

1. I press the on/off buttom.

2. The on/off LED light turns blue (on).

3. The screen turns on showing the ASUS logo.

4. After about 3 seconds, the screen turns off , the backlight turns off.

5.The backlight turns on again for 2 seconds showing my desktop and then turns back off again.

6. The on/off LED turns orange.

I opened it up to see if a capacitor was bad , they all seemed ok but I replaced most of them anyway just to be sure. The problem has remained the same. Could the problem be the inverter? and if so, how can I identify what the inverter looks like so I can replace it? Its my first time repairing a monitor and I am eager to learn more so please give as much advise as you can.

Thank you!

Hi,

Fault finding by elimination.

1. Have you selected the correct video input type vga, dvi etc?

2 .Have you tried a different video cable? (amber light indicates standby mode -no signal perhaps?)

3. Can you connect the monitor to another PC and see if it works?

4. Try a different video input type on the monitor - you have vga and dvi-d to choose, try the opposite to what you are using if possible

5.Try the monitor OSD (on screen display function where you adjust the settings - colour, brightness etc) - if this works your monitor problems may be tied up with the signal input side of things if the other suggestions don't work.
