Inserting Home button cable in socket

All the guides just assume that once you get the device apart that you can reverse the instructions and get it back together again. On the Ipad 4, I have found getting the home button cable back into it's connector to be anything but easy. In my case, I can only get the cable around halfway into the connector before it starts to bend/tear. I do have a spare as the home button assembly was not damaged on the old digitizer but I don't want to swap over to it until I have better grasp on how to get it plugged in without damage? Any ideas on how to get the cable fully into the connector?

It is definitely a pain in the ass.

if you're installing a digitizer with the home button flex already installed, it is much easier to take it off, plug it in to the connector, and then attach it to the digitizer. :-)
