Why am I getting a red X logo on my iPod Classic?

I'm still trying to find an answer for the red x on my ipod classic 7th gen. It was was working fine until I dropped it and it hasn't played since. It was even in a protective neoprene case. It only fell a few feet. It has a 512 gb solid state drive newly refurbished. I tried putting it in disk mode but it keeps going back to the red x. Is the drive bad or is it something else? Could something have happened to the motherboard? I opened it up and everything is still connected. Can it be fixed or should I sell it for parts? It sure didn't last long for what I gave for it. Maybe hard drives are more reliable.

I just replaced the solid state drive with a new 80 gb hard drive and there's no change. So does that narrow it down to the motherboard?

Here's what Apple says on the Red X

Restore iPod from Disk Mode

Disconnect iPod from your computer.

Manually put iPod into Disk Mode.

Open the latest version of iTunes and connect iPod.

Restore iPod.
