PCIe SSDs interchangeable between MacBook Air E.2015 and Pro M.2014?

Are the SSDs between these two models interchangeable? Even if it would run slower in the older model. Apparently, between 2015 Air and Pro models, they are.

As I have a scratched up MBA with 512GB and a near-mint MBP, so I'd like to switch disks.

The MBA Early 2015 has:

"APPLE SSD SM0512G"

Vendor: Apple

Product: SSD Controller

Physical Interconnect: PCI

Link Width: x4

Link Speed: 5.0 GT/s

Description: AHCI Version 1.30 Supported

The MBP Retina Mid 2014 has:

"APPLE SSD SM0256F"

Vendor: Apple

Product: SSD Controller

Physical Interconnect: PCI

Link Width: x2

Link Speed: 5.0 GT/s

Description: AHCI Version 1.30 Supported

Sadly No, If you note the Link Width you have two different units x2 and x4.

Think of it this way two gallons of water won't fit into a one gallons bottle.

Yes I had noticed that, but in my scouring of the web, I found an article in which the placement of an SSD from a Mac Pro into an MBA (I believe, it might've been a pro) furnished a 150% speed increase, citing the 2x and 4x lane difference.

I had assumed it was comparable to the days when you could interchange AGP 2x, 4x or PCI xN devices, and the bus would sort it out. It's not my intent to argue your answer, but I'm curious if anybody has actually given it a whirl.

Actually they are interchangeable. I have a MacBook Pro 2013 late, and switched my broken ssd with 2015 version, it now not only works but speed increased to almost double amount!

Please post a link that states these SSD's are interchangeable. That would be a surprise if the older logic board had support for a 4 lane SSD.

Timur, was that between MBA and MBP? or MBP and MBP? The internet says whatever it wants to, right or wrong. I'm excited to read anecdotal evidence of this working!
