Why is my flash not working?

I am trying to move the flash out of its housing by pressing the flash button on the side. It does not flip out like it normally does.

There may be several things that are wrong with the flash on your camera. First, check the flash opening button for any dust or dirt underneath or around it. To do this, refer to the "Buttons are sticky or not responding." section of the troubleshooting page. If this does not solve your problem, then the flash mechanism itself may not be working properly due to a substance or an object that is stopping the flash mechanism from opening. To fix this problem, clean the area around the mechanism with a plastic spudger. If your flash is still not opening, you may have to replace the entire flash mechanism. To do this, please refer to the disassembly guide for this camera.
