Disc drive accepts and audibly spins discs but games aren't installing

After taking apart my PS4 to change the thermal paste and clean the fan, my disc drive accepts the discs like normal and you can hear it spinning them, but the game tile never shows up on the PS4 home screen. It seems like the disc drive isn't actually reading the discs.

Happened once to me, but it was the game server, that seemed to be the issue...

It's quite likely that you may have torn or damaged the large ribbon cable going from the motherboard to the disc drive (I'm assuming that the disc drive worked before you took it apart). If this ribbon cable is crooked at all or not quite in the connector all the way it can cause this type of problem. I've seen many times where the little ears on each side of them get torn off and then won't lock in place like they should.

I hope this helps.

yes, the little ears on my ribbon cable are torn off. Where can I buy a new ribbon cable for that?

I'm sure you can find them on Ebay. the real problem though is that the ears are most likely stuck inside the connectors. They are very difficult to get out and sometimes it requires replacing the connectors.

You might try a new cable and see if you can get them in straight.
