Video Settings Don't Save For RCA, Must Reset Them Everytime

I have a PS3 that refuses to use RCA cables consistently. I have to do the memory reset every time I turn on the PS3. I usually have to do it repeatedly for THAT to even work. Usually takes at least 10 minutes or sometimes more - leaving the system on seems to help. EVENTUALLY it gives. I get the reset menu. I don't need to adjust anything; at that point all I need to do is restart the system.

I don't have anything with an HDMI port or related cable to test if it works with such a source while I get the black screen. However, I do get audio through the RCA L/R jacks.

I came to the conclusion that it was probably the PRAM battery. It does not appear to be the case. I have replaced it once. There is an off chance that the new battery was already dead, but that seems unlikely. It did not fix the problem.

Any additional thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't think this pertains to the following question, at least on the information provided: Why doesn't my PS3 have a signal on my TV?

Wow new one for us and we've repaired over 2000 PS3 consoles. Never say never as they always say, anything is possible. Just to give you an idea of one particular issue that we actually came across today. We had a customer that had a system he used HDMI on and decided he wanted to trade the PS3 system in at Gamestop. Well they hooked it up and used RCA and it gave no video. They reset the video and still no video. They hooked up HDMI, no problem. They refused the console.

So he brought the system to us and explained the issue and sure enough no signal out of the RCA port. The port is not damaged or anything. It ended up needing a proper reflow done to the RSX chip and it started working. He did mention it did the Yellow Light of Death once so that is what we came to the conclusion on doing and ended up working.

So my only suggestions would be as followed:

- Try a different RCA cable

- Try a different TV with the same inputs

- Go into the "SAFE MODE" of the Playstation 3 and try resetting the file system, maybe a particular file is corrupt.

- Make sure ONLY the RCA cable is plugged up when you reset your video.

Hope this helps.

Thank's so much for the suggestions. I have done a total system reformat before, but maybe it's worth trying again? Don't really have an alternate TV to try on? Have tried different cables. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to try another set, as I have extra. The system also has a tendency to freeze up with green distortion. PROBABLY an unrelated issue?
