Why can't I restore my iPhone?

So I purchased this phone on eBay.

It has a clean Imei, no icloud lock and is activation ready

The only problem I'm having is restoring it.

But a error (502) keeps popping up, can it be the motherboard?

It has me stumped.

Options

Is your iTunes up to date ? Sometime when the software is older than the Phone, this problem occurs.
