MacBook is not reading hard dive,& if it does, screen goes black?

My MacBook will cut on and show a folder with a question mark, then after unplugging and replugging in the hard drive, it boots up fine and then goes black after awhile and starts the whole process over.,.. Help!!'

Options

Personally I would first replace the hard Drive/IR cable. This may also have damaged your hard drive.
