My Mac Mini went black and can't come back

I was on Chrome, watching the David Bowie performances on SNL. I just launched Thunderbird to check mail and the screen just went dead black. I had to hard shut down and reboot but it still doesn't show anything. I have a KVM switch that I use to go between my back up PC and the mini. Switching to the PC, the monitor works fine. Switching back to the mini (after reboot), I get the screen that has my name, the small circular window for a picture and three options at the bottom: Sleep, Reboot and Shutdown. Rebooting and Shutting down doesn't help but the mini has something working, since it shows that screen. What is going on? It is dead in the water for me now.

Thanks,

Click on your icon and enter your password. Your monitor appears to be working. Personally, with all due respect to David, watching David Bowie would put me to sleep too, but I'm an old man and still like Buddy Holly (he was my neighbor).

Was he that blind he needed those glasses? Roy Orbison needed real thick ones.

I was there the day he came to practice with them on for the first ti me. We thought they were goofy, he thought they were cool. It became a trademark.

@danj - been at the doctor clinic all morning 5 1/2 hrs and have been doing your trick of answering questions on an iPad. I now understand the spelling errors and inability to give links when you do it in the subway.

Buddy & the Crickets set up at Joe B Mauldin' s (the bass player) house across the street from me when I was a kid. The bass he used was not electric but full sized.

The kids in the neighborhood would all sit around on the floor and listen. They were working on Peggy Sue (over and over) the day he came home with the glasses.

@mayer - Try editing, the text box is fixed size which is a real pain when the text you want to get to the bottom (can't grow it either). Yes, it's not easy ;-{

I often wait till I get to work or home when I can use a real PC to make corrections ;-}
