Why does my iPhone 5S have "dead zones" on the screen?

I got my new iPhone 5S a couple weeks ago and I've been loving it ever since. Ever since a week ago, anyway. Recently my phone has been displaying some odd behavior including weird vertical "bars" across the bottom of the screen. Also, the screen has "dead zones" where it doesn't register any touch commands. For example, I can't use the backspace because the phone doesn't register it. Also, the "dead zone" seems to relocate itself, albeit rarely. I've restarted, force restarted, etc. Nothing works. This problem didn't start until after I updated to iOS 9.2 either.

Any ideas? I'm thinking of going back to the ATT store to get a new phone because this is seriously hindering the functionality of this phone.

When you say new do you mean brand new? This sounds like a faulty refurbished product. Id take it back to ATT. Even a refurbished product shouldnt have these issues.

I picked up the phone three weeks ago from ATT. The phone was in the box with the plastic screens on both sides that you peel off, earbuds, and the charger. I can't recall if the box has shrink wrap around it. It was an Apple box.

I took it to Simply Mac yesterday after ATT said they couldn't do anything about it and now it's on it's way to some Apple facility for repairs or possible replacement. I'm using a loner phone until then.!

I don't see any vertical bars in that picture. It sounds like damage to your display assembly. Probably from just being rough with it

Do iPhones get reused when one is turned in? I've taken great care of mine so far (my 4 cracked from one accidental drop). I'm not sure if I did something by mistake...
