Why can't I restart my laptop?

I was watching youtube & suddenly the video freezed but the music still blared. I waited for 10 minutes with a hope that it was just an occassional lag. When i could no longer contain my patience, I pressed the power button & did it once again to restart properly, but to no avail. The screen only showed the buffer cycles & nothing else happened. Some time later, i restarted the device & some advanced choices appeared on the screen: 1) reboot the lappy & sacrificing my files or 2) reboot it & save the files in my microsoft account. I didn't choose both because I was afraid that my Microsoft Office might be wiped out of the desktop- it happened one time ago. So, what should I do?

Were you working on anything important when you did the force close if not then boot and sacrifice the files as the only thing you stand to loose are the files that were open at the time of the force close. If you do have docs you want to recover then try the save files route . The only files you stand to loose are your open files when forcing a shut down . By the way next time your browser freezes go tothe task manager( CTDL, ALT ,DELETE) and force the browser to close by choosing the browser and then hitting end task or end process . Hope this helps

Your issue right now is that youtube videos freeze? If so, what web browser are you using? I've had a horrible time with certain browsers and their flash players causing youtube to crash. I would install an alternate browser like Chrome or Firefox and see if the issue persists. If the new browser fixes the issue, then honestly Id just keep using the new browser and not worry about the browser that's broken. If I misinterpreted your issue, Ill try to answer any question you have.

Thank you, Brian. I forgot to mention that I was using Chrome when the youtube video froze. The problem right now is my laptop won't start properly & the way to get rid of the buffering cycles is to force a shut down or let the battery die of exhaustion. I really need help on this :-(

First, try installing Firefox and see if you have the same issue.
