After swapping battery and USB port, Nexus still won't charge!

I've scoured the internet in search of my specific problem, but can't find the question (or answer). I consider myself quite handy with electronics.

The Nexus would have trouble charging until I wiggled the cable into the exact location, eventually, it stopped charging at all. I let it sit for months...

I eventually decided I wanted all my games back, so I tested my theory by buying a new replacement battery from amazon. I swapped batteries, and instant life returned to my Nexus. There was a partial charge on the new battery. However, after plugging in with various cables and the OEM AC adapter, the battery eventually faded to dead.

I installed two different replacement USB/headphone ports with no luck. I reseated all the cables everywhere and can't figure anything out. The 4-pin charger dock is expensive, so I'd like to avoid that.

If it helps at all, the screen had the occasional ghost-touches, like the digitizer was damaged, but after putting in the factory charged battery, it still came to life with no issues....Thoughts?

Holding down any of the three buttons does nothing btw.

Answer this question I have this problem too

The hole usb port/headphone jack w/ ribbon was replaced (by me) two different times. I returned the first one.

I cannot currently test the headphone jack without the Nexus being able to power on.

does the headphone jack work ? the charger port and headphone jack ar run by the same input output cable that runs under the battery. can you connect your tablet to the computer and be recognized by it(the computer). if this cable is damaged at all it will keep the tablet from charging being read by a computer or having a working headphone jack. you may want to look into replacing this internal cable ribbon. to help ID it it looks like a police line tape

I just want to add that I have the EXACT same problem as Austin... Except that I have TWO Nexus 7s that went down simultaneously. Both Gen 1s, and I tried replacing the ports (twice) and the batteries. Mine also worked fine until the factory charge in the new battery ran out.

I am able to charge mine with a $30 dock from Amazon. However, plugging into a computer to transfer files is no longer an option.

Also, my screen, though impeccable, has ghost touching about every 20min of use...but then not for an hour or so sometimes. Weird.

I hope you have more luck than I. At least with a cheaper solution.
