Why wont it turn on?

I dropped my ipod and it opened when i put it back together it never turned back on and when i place it on the charger(my ihome) a sign comes up which is an empty battery with a lightning bolt. What do I do? Please help me my Ipodis the only technology i rely on. Please

Options

I would let it charge, since that symbol signifies an empty battery. If that doesn't help, open it, and check the battery's connection to the motherboard, as it may be dislodged.
