Can I use any a1297 topcase replacement or only the specific year?

Hey Guys

I'm about to attempt a topcase (upper case) replacement on my 17" unibody mid 2010.

Not very many replacements available that I can find and seems the 2011's that I've come across are in better shape.

Can I use a 2011 top case or does it have to be a mid 2010?

Thanks,

Jason

Wanted to add this backstory after reading some more posts the following:

I spilled water on my 17" a1297 (mid 2010) and keyboard stopped working. Trackpad still works but not 100%. Right click intermittently triggers when only left clicking.

I currently have a keyboard plugged in to the USB port from an old iMac I have and aside from the minor trackpad issue above, the machine is working as usual.

So i'm thinking I should just replace the entire upper case, but not 100% sure after reading through a bunch of ifixit posts.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated and if I decide to do full uppercase replacement, original question still applies :)

Thanks,

Jason

All I can confirm is that a 2009 top case will not fit a 2010 motherboard for the a1297. Unfortunately I didn't determine that until I put in a couple hours of wasted labour trying to replace the top case...

If you're willing to take a risk in ordering a slightly mismatched topcase, make sure you at least inspect the holes in the side very closely. That would be the biggest giveaway that it would be incompatible, if the ports don't match.

Also the track pad is generally sold as a separate part, fyi .
