Sudden drop to half performance. Hardware issue?

Hi Folks

My iMac suddenly drop to half performance and i can't spot the reason why. I have lately installed SSD(evo850) drive in my iMacLate09 (i7) and the performance was very good for long time 2000+ geekbench. Then all of a sudden the performance is half. I have trim enabled from the start, half the SSD drive is free 168gb free out of total 250gb. My system is a copy of my iMac11 and i see no performance drop on iMac11 that i spend 10times more time on that the iMac09.

I just made a clean install of OSX on iMac09 and then benchmark right after, but still low score ~900

On my install of the SSD in september managed to burn the internal display port so i run the iMac via external monitor ever since i got the first high score of 2000+

SSD specs, trim enable + 50% free space.

Other than that:

Disk speeds are running fine around 250 mb/s close to same speed as in september. What i can expect to get in a sata2 logic board with a 6gb/s SSD.

My tests are a lot lower than the average iMac 2009

I ran benchmark from old HDD drive where i have Lion OSX installed but same low score of 900..

-- Do you know what the problem can be and what a potential solution could be? I plan to change the logic board to get my display port running again, but not worth it if mac as not coming back to normal speeds.

Best regards Mads

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

I had this problem when I upgraded my Mac Mini with an SSD. Mine was also a clean install. But I grabbed everything back over from Time Machine, so my Mac was just like it was before.

Despite everything being "fresh" with a super speedy SSD, some tasks ran unusually slow. The fix that worked for me was verifying and repairing permissions. This can be done through Disk Utility.

Cool. Might not be a 100% fix though.

by

Don't forget to leave at least 1/3 of the SSD free. And make sure you enable TRIM.

by

#1 - August - Ok i tried it now , did not work, trim is enabled.

#2 - Dan -1/3 is freesamsung (disk1s2) / : 249.20 GB (168.11 GB free

What is the linkspeed of your ssd sounds like the bus is set to half speed because of the sata II and sata III will not work well

Comments:

@adeheer - Sadly this system has only a SATA II (3.0 GB/s) HD interface. Here is the specs: iMac 27" 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo (Late 2009) so it would jump down to SATA I (1.5 Gb/s).

by

I only expect it to run data 2 (200-250mb/s read/write)It was running fast on this ssd for long time.

Link Speed: 3 Gigabit
