Ear speaker not working, how do I fix it?

I have an iPhone 3G, the problem is that when someone calls me, I have to place them on speaker phone to answer, there's nothing from the ear speaker. It plays music fine, and does everything else, I've changed the headphone jack as it was suggested this was the problem, but I'm now thinking it's the actual speaker at the ear level.... is this an easy fix and would you take it on yourself?

it's the small flex on the back of the midframe-no 3.(proximity sensor) you can buy this on auction sites and is easy to replace.you'll have to follow instructions for removing display/lcd. are you also having problems with proximity sensor not working?as they are on same flex. you could try just opening and reseating the connector on the mainboard to see if this works first.
