Need New hard drive
Can You link me to where I can purchase a new 500/7200 hard drive for a 2004 Mac book pro 17".

First lets figure out just which machine you have. Please give us your model number. The MacBook Pro weren't produced till 2006. Sounds like you have a Powerbook if it is a 2004 and it uses a Ultra ATA/66 (ATA-5) type of drive. If so, both of the other answers here are incorrect and those drives will not work for you.

You may want to consider getting a better drive.
Today you can get a SSHD for just a few dollars more. Checkout the Seagate units: Seagate Laptop SSHD either the 500 GB (7mm) or 1 TB (9.5mm) will work in your system.
