Darla Nickell first download the service manual from here. Then disassemble your laptop. Clean all the air inlet slots as well as the fan properly. Make sure that the fan is working properly. This video will help you with the inspection and will also show how to apply new thermal paste. Different model, same idea.

Your laptop can be hot due to a broken heatsink, the fan/heatsink (and all the motherboard) can be full of dust or because the thermal paste between the heatsink and the processor is too old.
