Hi,

It may be that over time the pins in the USB connector itself are either losing tension or are suffering some other form of mechanical problem. Usually the front USB ports are connected by a cable to the motherboard.

If you open your PC case (with the power disconnected) you should be able to see where the cable(s) runs from the motherboard towards the front panel. There are other cables (wires) of course, headphone socket, power button, lights etc running there as well. Some desktops (you don't state your brand / model) have the USB ports built into the front cover whilst others are located on a removable panel. You can buy a panel with USB ports and place it in a spare panel slot (remove blank), if it is too difficult to remove the original USB ports (maybe because there are other connector types on the same panel e.g. headphone socket, mic socket etc).

This is just an example of how USB ports can be placed into a PC case front panel (depending on type of course)

Hi,

You can insert something like this (http://www.amazon.com/3-5in-Motherboard-... ) in the 3.5" panel above your existing USB ports, ignore the audio and microphone connections, or you can get something like this (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-25-inch-USB... ) and use either one of the top two panels (unless your dvd or cd drive is in one). These are only to show you what they look like. You may be able to find them where you are. That's all I can do for you.
